W*B*H is an isometric puzzle game from Bob Smith, with the help of a handful of WoSers. The game idea can be found on the internet, but Bob wanted the game to appear on the Spectrum, so here it is. The game involves you tumbling and rolling your way around the levels to get to the exit. Clever use of the level's switches, teleports, glass, crumbling and splitter tiles to complete each level in the least number of moves. More details can be found at Bob Smith's webpages and downloaded from here. Thanks to Metalbrain for bringing us this games news.

There once was a time, before closures, before Lucasarts, when the name "Sierra" meant premium PC adventure gaming. Those days are, sadly, long gone. But they will not be forgotten!
If you head over to Sarien, you can take part in a little project that's part-game, part-museum piece, with old Sierra adventure games running in Flash on your browser. The graphics are the same, and if you want, you can use text commands, but a right-click menu system has also been introduced to speed things up a bit.
That's the game part. The museum part comes in a gallery of assets from the old games, with a wide range of things like background art available for browsing.
Interestingly, it also supports...well, multiplayer, with the internet-based nature of the games allowing users to see other gamers attempting the same puzzles as you are in real-time.
Currently three games are supported - Leisure Suit Larry 1, Police Quest 1 and Space Quest 1 - with more promised.

Former Infinium Labs boss Kevin Bachus has said the Phantom console was "ahead of its time" and came "tantalisingly close to coming to market".
Bachus left the company in 2005, before Infinium Labs got wrapped up in a stock manipulation scandal and the Phantom - a hybrid console/PC - disappeared.
"I guess that on the whole, I wish them nothing but success," Bachus told Gamasutra, speaking of Phantom Entertainment's efforts to secure funding and finally get the Phantom into the market.
"I think that for me, there's kind of an empty place in our heart where Phantom should be because there was tremendous scepticism about the system and a lot of joke-telling and a lot of criticism.
"In some cases, there was also some bitterness and nastiness that was directed at the product, which is unfortunate because for those who actually spent the time to get to understand what we were doing and looked at it, I think they saw something that probably was pretty cool.
"Maybe in a way, it was a little bit ahead of its time because it was attempting to make the whole process of accessing games easier and therefore more accessible to a broader audience," said Bachus.
The Phantom aimed to do away with physical media in preference of a direct-download digital distribution system that Bachus said was like iTunes but on a "much, much smaller scale". Both addressed "the same opportunity", apparently.
"I think the idea still is very sound," added Bachus. "I think that it's unfortunate because one of the things that I really reflected on when I left the company was that to some extent the business was unfinished. And more than that, I realised that if the product never came to market, there would probably be a lot of people that would have said, 'Well see, that just goes to show you. It was never serious, it was never real; there was never anything there.'
"The truth is quite the opposite. The product was tantalisingly close to coming to market. But there was so much momentum that was difficult ultimately to overcome. I think that it sort of was a case of self-fulfilling prophecy."

Like we said at the outset, the incredibly inventive and fun handheld hardware of Meggy JR RGB is only as good as the games that hackers can manage to squeeze onto it. Well, we'd say the hackers have won. Steven Read has built a fully-functional Donkey Kong clone called Super Monkey Kong that plays out on that delicious 8 x 8 grid of RGB LEDs. It took him roughly 3,000 lines of code to do it, which compresses down to 14k, the max allowable by the AVR microcontroller in use. Check out the video at the read link to see it for yourself.

For those who haven't seen previous versions, XTiger is a unix emulator (under X Window) of a TI-92 calculator (Texas instruments).
It was originally written by Jonas Minnberg and was closed source.
Jonas Minnberg has not worked on XTiger for quite a while and he gave Misha Nasledov the code and permission to GPL it.
PSP-XTI is a port on PSP a the Unix version 0.8.
What's new in this version ?
- New background images
- Add Load & Save states
- Text editor to write your own comments
(or to read math courses )
- Finally fix issue with "Home -> Exit" & Sleep mode
- Add a new settings menu
ZX-81's web site
It's distributed under GNU licence and sources are included.
It has been developed on linux for Firmware 1.5 and 5.0-M33, and for the IR keyboard
part it has been tested using a Targus Universal IR Wireless keyboard on a PSP FAT.
How to use it ? Everything is in the README.txt file.
Enjoy,
Zx.

HTC's been pretty coy with pricing on the Touch Pro2 and Touch Diamond2, but now that units are starting to trickle out overseas, the numbers situation is getting slightly clearer. HTC's just announced that an unlocked Pro2 will set Singaporeans back S$1,328 ($887), while a Diamond2 will hit 'em up for S$1,088 ($726) -- a little more than in Taiwan, but probably close to what we'll see off-contract in the States. A little rich for our blood, though -- let's hope T-Mobile cleans the goo off soon.

Benjamin J. Heckendorn seems unusually enthused by his latest hack'n mod, calling the Commodore 64 laptop "probably one of, if not my favorite project I have done." That's saying something from the man who brought the "Benheck" finesse hammer down upon just about every modern and classic PC / game console and accessory you can think of. The C64 lappie features a C64C motherboard, a Gamecube power supply, and special 1541-III DTV device that emulates a floppy drive using a FAT-32 formatted SD card -- all while keeping true to the beige 8-bit spirit of the original. And if we're not mistaken, he's controlling it with an Atari joystick seen in the video posted after the break. Then again, there could be an Xbox 360 controller hiding in that joystick knowing Ben.

[Ben Heck] posted this writeup about getting S-Video/composite out of an Atari 2600. This is actually the hack of [Longhorn Engineer], who showed it to [Ben] at a recent event. If any of you have tried to play these classics on a modern TV you may have found it to be quite difficult. If you manage to get it physically connected, through adapters and such, you may still have video issues. This alleviates that issue completely. After you solder this in, your Atari has native composite/S-video. As you can see in the video after the break, it seems to work pretty well.

Hi All,
PSP-Magic is a PSP version of the famous mechanical drawing toy called "Magic Screen".
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etch-A-Sketch for details.
Big thanks to Pako for his very nice music !
(see http://www.jamendo.com/)
Many thanks to my friends Manu & Buzz, who encouraged me and for their help, advices and beta testing.
By the way a new project is coming soon. My very good Friend Buzz is working hard to design a PCB
and to connect his modded "device" to the psp for an incredible Etch & Sketch experience on PSP
using IRDA or serial ports.
We have also many ideas to improve old-schoold emulation experiences on PSP, so stay in contact !
PSP-Magic has been developed on linux for Firmware 1.5 and 5.x-m33.
How to use it ? Everything is in the README.txt file.
Sources are included, and this package is under the GNU public license,
