Banger Management is a ZX Spectrum game developed by Jonathan Cauldwell for the Homebrew "Game in a Day" Challenge at the recent Byte Back convention. Using two ideas pitched for the challenge, Rabid Potato Kill Frenzy (the player worked in a chip shop facing waves of mutated potatoes, fish, burgers, and sausages) and Bonehead Billy (the player controls a character by placing blocks around the screen), Cauldwell mashed the two ideas together to get Banger Management.
The gameplay takes place in a drive through take away where various mutant food items are delivered. The various food items move around the screen where the player can force them to move right, left, or jump by placing blocks accordingly. The goal is to fulfil the customers’ orders by sending the correct food ingredients through the relevant windows.
The game can be downloaded from the World of Spectrum website.

Welcome to this week's Movie/Music news roundup, containing new Japanese and Hong Kong Video and Music releases from this week listed at Play-Asia.com. Around 200 new items are covered in this week, including new J-Pop, Anime as well as Japanese, Hong Kong and Western movie releases and much more.
Quite a number of musicians released their works this week. One of the hottest boy bands in Japan, Kat-Tun came out with their second single in 2009, Rescue [First Press & Standard vers.]. As a theme song for a T.V drama about a rescue team, the song portrays danger, determination and excitement.
Rescue and survival are highly inter-related. Another highly popular boyband across Asia, Dong Bang Shin Ki or Tohoshinki published Survivor [Jacket A, Jacket B], the pioneering single for their 4th Japanese album.
Can the boybands' songs rescue people held captive by the vampires in Castlevania? Castlevania Judgment is out with its soundtrack to capture your ears and overwhelm your senses.
Complementing the gothic atmosphere and the dark grandness of the structure, you can feel ice cold fingers and hands clawing at you through the music. Take care, do not fall into the trap of the blood thirsty.
After escaping from the lair of Dracula, listen to something a little more light hearted but just as exciting. Furu Furu Dance Beat is the newest installment in the Dance Dance Revolution series, this triple CD pack contains the game versions of the songs you danced to and long versions as well as arranged tracks of fan favourited music.

It is not my intention to shill for a beverage, but Mountain Dew's installation in SXSW's ScreenBurn Arcade was too cool for me not to share. As I walked by, I noticed a cozy little setup with a couch, a vintage TV, an NES, an Atari 2600, and a pile of games; a booth employee was playing some Super Mario Bros. I looked around a bit and found that Mountain Dew's expansive booth featured separate areas dedicated to discrete eras of gaming.
In addition to the early-mid '80s corner, the booth featured an SNES/Genesis shrine, a setup with a PlayStation, N64, and Xbox, and, of course, modern installations, one of which featured Wii Sports and the other Rock Band. The whole effect was more than nostalgic, it was soothing -- I can definitely imagine getting away from the stress and crowds by whiling away time in 1985. And more than that, it was like seeing my own life in distinct little pieces. That PlayStation/Xbox room might as well have been my dorm room -- except for the nice furniture and TV.
As great as the booth was, it didn't necessarily make me crave any Mountain Dew, though the booth staff gave me some anyway. Kudos to the Dew for abandoning the "extreme" for a bit and doing something incredibly sweet.

It must be creative pipe week here at Gizmodo, because people keep sending in their awesome creations. And this might be the best one yet: a functioning TI-83 calculator with a pipe built into it.
In high school, I made a pipe out of a TI-83 Plus calculator. the calculator still works, even now, as well as the pipe. Even though the tube is made of duct tape, it works fine. I cut into the bowl itself so it can be flat and still allow airflow, and put another piece of metal under it so the tape will not heat up. The stem can be separated and placed into the calculator to be more hidden. Inside the calculator, there are also compartments for matches, toothpicks (pokers), and screens. There is also enough room on the inside for a small bag of whatever is going to be smoked. It has been named the TI-420 Tokeulator.

Rumours of a mythical civilization in space prompt our hero Phantom to have one last raid before retirement. As the sub-title would suggest, the game takes place on Mars with Phantom needing to collect the twenty gold cubic containers hidden away in the mines of Mars.
Not ones for wasting any time in getting new games produced, The Mojon Twins emerge from their recent split from CEZ with their own development group and another game in the Phantomas series. Phantomas Tales #1: Marsport is a classic style platform game with the added benefit of a back-story and plot.
The game is available on the Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum, and Speccy users can choose between a 48K or a 128K version. The 128K version not only has different graphics and sound, but an intro, AY music, and sound effects. All versions, the full plot, game details, downloads, and cover art can be found at Mojon Twins.com.

Supaplex was originally released on the Amiga, Atari ST, and DOS platforms in the early 1990s. The Boulderdash clone has now received a ZX Spectrum 128k conversion thanks to Transman and Triumph Game Labs. The main character, Murphy, replaces Rockford, who must collect Infotrons instead of the familiar diamonds, and instead of the familiar dirt found in Boulderdash, Supaplex's levels consist of printed circuit boards and lined with computer chips and other hardware.
Although a clone of Boudlerdash, Supaplex has a number of different elements, including bugs (parts of the base that randomly cause life threatening electrostatic discharges), Ports (which limit Murphy's movement to specific directions), and terminals (set off explosive floppy disks). And watch out for the enemies: Snik Snaks (moving scissors) and electrons (sparkling stars). The Gamecard (with game details and downloads) can be found at the World of Spectrum website.

You want to talk minimalist gaming, it doesn't get more minimalist than programming an entire game that takes up only 4096
bytes (or less). These 67 games, though, do just that.
They're the entrants in the Java4K 2009 competition, some of whom - including Left 4K Dead - you've already seen. There are plenty others worth a look, though, including 4bidden Fruit and Red Baron 4K, along with the copyright-infringing, but no less accomplished, MEG4kMAN and Nights 4K.
You can check out - and play - all 67 games below, with the winners due to be announced in a week or two.

Mortal Kombat II features 3 hidden and unplayable characters Smoke, Noob Saibot, and Jade. If you attempt to play as them with Pro Action Replay cheats the game will crash as none are programmed for human control. This hack addresses that issue and fixes all crashing issues making them all playable. It also adds in game codes to pick a hidden character so no cheat device is needed. A few things were not addressed yet and will be added in a later version. Note that Kintaro and Shao Kahn are not human playable.

The long wait is over. RGCD isn't dead, as many had feared, but it is more alive than ever with possibly its biggest issue yet. Issue #05 (March 2009) is here and contains reviews, previews, and features on a wide rage of retro and indie games. Just a select overview of the 45 articles include reviews for (deep breath) ThrustBurst (the featured game), Qwak, Rock Boshers, Droid Assault, Self Destruct, Noitu Love 2, War Twat, SY!NSO, Splattr, Sub Hunter, World Reborn, Lead, as well as a host of others.
If you're new to RGCD, it is an html based disc mag, which you can download a "full" version and burn to a CD or view a "lite" version from your hard drive. It features retro reviews, remakes, demakes, indie game, features, and developer interviews. RGCD's forte is their in-depth coverage of the 8/16-bit computer platforms.
For more details on the disc mag and the team, visit the RGCD website. You can download the current issue from the Current Issue page, which hosts the full ISO version or the lite version. The ISO download contains the mag as well as the games and emulators, while the lite ZIP file contains just the articles (which can be read without burning to CD).

Hirokazu Yasuhara, who designed much of the original Sonic the Hedgehog at Sega and worked on Jak games and Uncharted for Naughty Dog, is now at Namco Bandai, and working on a new Pac-Man game, to celebrate the beloved circle's 30th anniversary in 2010.
Namco Bandai America's Makoto Iwai told Gamasutra that "As a group, we feel like we should do something to make him come back. So, there's one project that we started working on, and [Yasuhara is] part of it." Iwai said that the new game design was "sort of meeting his wish 100 percent, in a sense," referring to an earlier statement by Yasuhara that he wanted to make a new character action game.
Does Pac-Man's original maze-style gameplay count as "character action," or do we have a new Pac-Land sort of affair to look forward to? After the last Pac-Man game, we will eagerly devour whatever delicious fruit (by which we mean games) Namco Bandai sends out into the maze (by which we mean, um, the retail or downloadable market).

Despite the incredible popularity of videogaming, there's still a stigma attached by many to those who play them, thinking gamers fat or lazy and generally not good people to be around. For anyone sensitive to those criticisms, the Cool8800C offers an escape, looking like a perfectly normal imitation of Nokia's 8800 on the outside, but, like a transformer that runs illegal ROMs, quickly changes into a portable gaming console in disguise. Flip it open to reveal a full D-pad and four input buttons plus a 2.8-inch WQVGA LCD for playing emulated NES games or watching analog TV, or snap it shut to make use of its VGA camera and 900/1800MHz GSM connection. No, it's not likely this one is destined for release anywhere too far outside of China, meaning you, dear reader, are probably going to have to come out of the closet with that gaming addiction of yours already.
