Ahhh! After 10,000 years I’m free. It’s time to conquer Earth!
Not really…
The translation for Kyoryu Sentai ZyuRanger (Kyouryuu Sentai Juuranger according to GoodNES) is finally released.
The characters may look familiar to you, as this is the Japanese/original version of what would eventually come to America as Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers.
Enjoy this fun little platformer.

Good news about the Kanon translation project! It’s now time to release the final version of the patch. Here are some words from NDT:
We wish to release the final patch on July 21, on Key’s 10th Anniversary. That is one month from today. The cutoff date will be July 19th. I do hope that you, my friends, will see this to be reasonable timeframe to improve our work.
So, expect a finished translation soon!

New deadline of July 31st set as developer interest exceeds expectation
Zeemote has extended the deadline of its global game development competition to July 31st.
The competition, with which Develop is a partner, tasks mobile developers with creating a game that uses Zeemote's ZS-1 Bluetooth analogue joystick. The company says that 'many' developers have signed up to download the SDK and participate in the competition, from geographically diverse regions.
“We’ve been extremely happy with the response to our developers contest with Asian, European and Latin American mobile game developers especially well represented,” said Glenn Kiladis, VP of marketing at Zeemote.
“With a prize fund totalling $10,000 and with the opportunity to have their games delivered to customers around the world via Zeemote’s leading handset manufacturer and operator partners, developers seem to be rising to the challenge,” he added.

[Chris-Koopa] sent in this sweet little throwback to the good ol days of Atari 2600. He had been playing his old unit, lamenting the poor visual quality on his new TV when he had an idea. He picked up an Atari flashback2 and began modding. He added a cartridge slot and made some case modifications to make it look more like the 2600. The final result is that he can switch between the built in games, or play strait off of the cartridges with crisp clean video. There are other methods of doing this, like modding the Atari itself or building a whole new console, but this is pretty sweet too.

News via pdroms
RetroChallenge commences July 1st, 2009 and runs until July 31st, 2009
In order to qualify, computer systems must use a pre-pentium processor... in general, this means 486 or below, 680x0 and pretty much everything with an 8-bit processor, but we'll also let you in if you have an old Cray kicking about.
Gaming consoles and PDAs qualify if they are at least ten years old as of July1, 2009.
Where appropriate, replica hardware and emulators may be used.
Entrants are responsible for adequately documenting their projects and submitting occasional updates during the contest.
Projects may encompass any aspect of retrocomputing that tickles the fancy of the individual entrant.
Winners will be arbitrarily chosen and crap prizes doled out during the first week of August 2009.
Have fun.

In the days of touchscreens and wireless data, our heroes of yesteryear find solace in the companionship of one another.
From the creator, Byron Casebier:
Here is my weak (and slightly unfinished) Atari iPod Dock. I thought sharing may create interest for someone that can do this better. As far as specs, I gutted a broken, iPod clock radio and put it all inside the Atari. Everything works except for the clock (it was the broken part). There is even a remote control so I can sit back on my vinyl couch, drink some Tang and control my tunes...And yes, I'm still rocking a 3rd gen iPod.
A little geek factoid about that generation of iPod: It's still Jason Chen's, Matt Buchanan's and my favorite iPod design. Those orange glowing buttons were the best.
Stick together, little iPod and Atari. Your ability to find true love in this crazy, fast-paced world is an inspiration.

The last of the Commodore 64’s shortcomings has been addressed; it finally has a Twitter client. [Johan Van den Brande] wrote BREADBOX64 for use on the C64/128. It’s running on top of the open source Contiki operating system. The hardware is an MMC Replay cartridge with an ethernet adapter. If you don’t have the hardware available, you can run it inside an emulator like VICE. Embedded below is a C128D running the program.
