OCOSMOS. Sound familiar? If you were with us for last year's wild ride through the autumn, it most definitely will. For whatever reason, this South Korean company only comes out to play when the world's eyes are watching, and while we've yet to hear a peep about the products it wowed us with just a few months back, the outfit's making a last-second play for attention at this year's gala. All we have to go on so far are the images above and these two details: this unnamed gaming handheld will boast a dual-core Intel processor and run some version of Windows 7. In other words, you can finish up an Excel file right after you plow through a bona fide Windows game. We're hoping to learn more on this guy in due time, and you can bet we'll be grappling for hands-on time once we hit the floor.

[Sprite_TM] was given a Kodak ZX3 to play with by a forum he moderates. The Kodak ZX3 is a waterproof HD camcorder in a cell phone / mp3 player form factor. After opening up the camcorder, he did some poking around with a scope and was able to locate a serial port on the board. It quickly became apparent that the system uses a proprietary kernel called PrKernelV4 rather than an open source alternative. Not letting the proprietary kernel get him down, he exploited the system by simply modifying a file called “autoexec.ash” on the sd card. He now has a Tetris clone easily launched from a previously unused menu icon. See it in action after the break.

‘Back in Time’ is a monthly feature I do for Out-of-Print Archive where I look back at the classic video gaming magazines twenty years ago this month. Back in December 1990, Robocop 2 began patrolling the gaming streets, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles began their invasion onto all the major formats, Creatures invested the Commodore 64 and Narc started shooting up a storm on the Spectrum…
As usual, the main ‘Back in Time’ feature is accompanied by four online articles taken from the magazines covered. This month the chosen articles are Zero’s ‘Under Wraps’ special preview of Line of Fire on the Amiga and Atari ST, Commodore Format’s review of Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday on the C64, Zzap!64′s review of Creatures on the C64 and Computer & Video Games’ review of The Secret Of Monkey Island on the PC. Enjoy the nostalgia, have a merry Christmas and we’ll see you in the New Year.

The Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers project is back on track, this time with a few not-so-broken pictures (and a video teaser here).
What has been done so far:
•All story dialogs have been translated as well as most of the system strings;
•Partially translated battle dialog;
•Coded a new 8 BPP VWF overlay that supports all of the font modes used in game (the old one caused so many glitches I was forced to kill it entirely).
As usual many thanks to Tom for providing all the translated text. Hope you like it!

Work on Mirai Shinwa Jarvas is completed. I would advise to not play it at all. I have other more important matters to discuss. My next patch (Dragon Ball: Dai Maou Fukkatsu) will be released in a couple months at the latest, but there is one tiny detail that is holding it back. There are various small graphics that need english designs. I’m hoping someone talented and clever in graphic design will come to our aid.

News via http://retroactionmagazine.com/retro...aniac-issue-2/
We joyfully praised the launch of RetroManiac issue 1 a few months back and the team have now published issue 2. So, how does this issue fare? Well, the production qualities haven’t changed, which is good, as they are truly excelent. The team clearly have a designer who knows how to produce a finely balanced editorial/image production, taking advantage of the digital functions of the format, including superb use of anchor links on the contents page.
The cover feature, Sonic 4 Episode 1, is given the headline slot in the reviews section, where it was also nice to see some homebrew games featured as well. We’re still not sure about a couple of the Retro Gamer style regular articles – you know, the two-page spread screenshot with a squashed editorial to one side. And come on guys… a Spanish publication using a Sega Genesis cover art image of Sonic the Hedehog? However, we forgive you, because this is a quality piece of work, definitely the best ezine currently publishing, but pretty please produce an English translated version.

It is getting quite chilly in some parts of the world! The holiday season is just under foot, and what better way to celebrate than with a Christmas/winter themed hack!
Toadette’s Christmas Adventure is a short easy hack based on Super Mario Bros ready for your enjoyment!
Tired of graphics ripped from other games? Tired of the same standard Mario enemies showing up again and again? Well, no worries! Everything* is drawn from scratch to help bring new life into the environment!
With music from the Mother series, it is a present play from start to finish! Enjoy the excuse plot of your brother being captured! Stomp Sporin, kick Harballs, and stop Fungrowth!
Romhacking is not only about the game, it is about fun. This hack should bring a smile and a laugh. So enjoy, and Happy Holidays to all!
