Dynamic Designs has picked up and resumed work on Silva Saga II. This is a project that Bongo` was originally working on some time ago, but had dropped due to technical issues. Those issues were recently solved.
Roughly 33% of the game was already translated by Akujin in the past, but Dynamic-Designs is seeking the assistance of a translator for the remaining game text. If you are a dedicated translator that would like to help them out, please contact them.

Nearly missed this new release for the Commodore 64 from The New Dimension. Developed by Anthony Burns, with music by Richard Bayliss, Shadow Over Innsmouth is a Sideways SECUK arcade style game based on the H. P. Lovecraft novel of the same name. The player controls an old fashioned submarine with the task of fending off the sea creatures that dwell offshore near the seaside town of Innsmouth. The game is available to download for free in both C64 disk and tape digital formats.

I started to remodel the original Zelda A Link to the Past game a long time ago. Unlike Goddess of Wisdom this is a modification, but despite that the dungeons are quite different to solve with a lot of new tricks and hidden objects.
I was concentrating to change the gameplay as much as possible, so even a veteran of the game can easily get stuck. The game is also more difficult than the original, but still quite easy at some points. Despite the fact that this is a remodel, it still took a lot of work, specially because of the number of the dungeons. The overworld, however, is less modified, but there are a lot of barriers, that will force you to search for the correct path. A smart player will quickly see, that this is much more than just another vapid master quest.

Filler’s translation projects are heating up! Today marks the 50% completion of the 1st draft of and English script for Welcome to Pia Carrot 2 for Windows. This project is being worked on by Esperknight who is making great strides with script reinsertion. More info
Also the announcement of a couple of new projects. First is Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R for the Game Boy. Esperknight and myself have been working on this for a little while. I don’t think I need to explain the history or importance of Atari’s original Pong. Pong Machine is a variant of that classic digital tennis game and was produced by Technische Maschinenfabrik. As you would expect for a classic game, it is easy to get into, but is fiendishly addictive with a healthy dose of nostalgia. Play against a human opponent or take on the particularly clever AI of the computer. The game can be downloaded in D64 (C64 disk) format for free from the Commodore Scene Database.

News via http://www.romhacking.net/forum/inde...pic,11995.html
Nightcrawler posted some new information back in late December concerning the progress of Heracles IV, the new table standard being developed, and his new custom text dumper that is going to strong arm its way through the competition.
Heracles is moving right along and I’ve got to say, it’s looking very nice thus far. A consensus amongst the community seems to have been reached concerning the new table standard, and the tentatively titled TextAble is going to make my own Cartographer look very bad in the near future. I could not be happier.

The multi platform, multi award winning hero Uwol is back for a sequel in the cunningly titled Uwol 2 on the Amstrad CPC. Coded by The Mojon Twins, the sequel follows straight off from the end of the first game: Uwol merrily skips home with his successfully snatched bundle of coins when he is knocked down a steep hill and ends up in Phantomas’ Electric Garden – another setting of a fine Mojon Twins game. As he recovers, Uwol notices that all his coins have disappeared. Will Uwol just escape the Electric Garden and go home to sulk or will Uwol hunt down all the coins before leaving? You, as the player, will determine what happens…

Another entry into the MSXDev’10 competition, courtesy of Darkstone. DAQ Lord of Idar is described as an action puzzle game, but there is a definite element of board game strategy in there with a hint of RPG. The game can be played with one to four players, with the aim of becoming the new Land Lord on the island of Idar. This means a strategic wargame with the last man standing wins. The game’s ROM and more detailed instruction manual can be found at the game’s entry page at the MSXDev website.

The most beautiful thing to come out of CES 2011? The show ain't over yet, but we're unafraid to say that Razer's Switchblade is the device to beat. Before you go getting your hopes up, we have to (regretfully) point out that this here gaming handheld is but a concept, but considering that Toshiba's Libretto W105 made it to store shelves (if but for a moment), we're hoping and praying that the Switchblade can also find its way to a production line. Little is known about the device itself, but Razer has imagined it using a pair of 7-inch multitouch displays as well as a layer of tactile, dynamic keys on the lower screen. Much like the Optimus Maximus of yesteryear, this keyboard would enable gamers to place different screens underneath depending on title, and even within a game, you could imagine the keys shifting to account for different POVs, levels, scenarios, etc. Internally, the concept is based around an Intel Atom processor, but there's no word on what kind of GPU would work alongside of it. Sadly, Razer's unwilling to talk pie-in-the-sky details when it comes to price and release, but if four million comments show up below begging and pleading for the company to take this commercial...
Update: Just to be clear, the keyboard on the bottom is a full-on LCD , but covered with physical keys. In contrast, the W105 had a flat touchpanel on the bottom.

A New Year and a new MSX game. Hans’ Adventure is an MSX game coded by The Pets Mode that was entered into the ongoing MSXDev’10 game making competition. The game’s main character is Han, who, following some backtracking from some frightful noises in the forest has somehow ended up in a black hole full of monsters. It’s the player’s task – you, that is – to get Han out of there by any means, even if you need to map things out like we did in the good old days.

[Hunter Davis] is playing games like Contra, Monkey Island, and Quake 3 by running them on a Seagate Dockstar. We were shocked after seeing how well these run in the video after the break. [Hunter], who used the ZipIt for game emulation in the past, added a couple of hardware peripherals to get everything running. For sound he picked up an inexpensive USB sound card which was no problem to get up and running. Next he picked up a USB to DVI adapter and fired up the Linux USB DisplayLink driver. With the peripherals running he loaded up Fluxbox and the rest was history.

Hi All,
Here is a simple tool, that might be useful for french guys like me who want to connect to all "FreeWifi" wireless hotspots
using their caanoo + official GPH wifi dongle (i've just received mine today :P ).
This tool is based on my termlua2x fixed version (see my blog for other details) and a recompilation of the famous wget command line browser.
Once you're connected to the FreeWifi hotspot (using GPH menu) you need to enter identification login/password.
This simple tool will do it for you. You just need to modify the config.txt file with your personnal account settings.
This set of tools + shell script might be modified to be used with other internet providers that offer such wireless connection feature.
On my blog : http://zx81.zx81.free.fr/
Enjoy,
Zx

News via http://www.romhacking.net/forum/inde...pic,11980.html
I’ve worked on this project, my very first, during most of last year. It started out with humble intentions, but I experimented and implemented more and more until, after several hiccups, four personal test runs, three other beta testers and countless hours of picking at things and ideas, it’s done. Primarily a re-balancing of the original game, likely akin to Eviltype, but with many other subtle changes and touches, which I hope will prove somewhat unique without transforming the game’s story or presentation. I know there is no shortage of Final Fantasy VI hacks, and this one won’t break the mold, but I think fans of Final Fantasy will appreciate it.
