Heres some great news from romhacking.net:
A major update to what many consider to be the best version of Final Fantasy VI, Ted Woolsey Uncensored Edition 2.00 has been released. Many lines in the script have been fine tuned and corrected where it was needed. This also includes the Updated Opera versions that use the modern translations of the famous Opera scene in the game.
Several issues in previous versions have been corrected. This includes a character walking through a wall, and the Sketch bug finally being correctly fixed. In addition, the Bug-Fixes version now includes a large list of bug fixes available that fix some of the worst bugs in the game. A Bug Fix Compendium has been added to document all of the changes and tweaks made in the game.
The Music Player included has also had corrections made to the song titles that the previous version had incorrectly.
To help everyone that wonders what name changes were made to items and monsters, lists are now included to give players an understanding of where the names come from.
With the Bug Fixes, Updated Opera, Add-Ons, and Music Player added in, this presents a fantastic way to experience the game, whether its for first time players or long time fans.
Enjoy!!

The Atari 2600 gets some more homebre loving, heres the news:
Alien Attack is a homebrew Atari VCS game by easmith. It’s a 4k tiny shooter game, fully written in Assembler.
Release notes:
Ok, I got a little feedback on the “prototype” so I went ahead and made some changes. I think now it can truly be considered a finished game.
1. Made 16 unique enemy designs/ 16 waves.
2. Enemy speed is now controlled with fractional pixel movement , for more variations in speed and less abrupt change from slow to really fast, thanks to help from SpiceWare for this.
3. Figured out how to enlarge Enemy missile without flicker.
4. Fixed bug where death sound would play indefinitely
5. Reduces delay before button reset kicks in.
6. Added win screen after wave 16.
Again, the idea is to take out the 16 waves before the enemies take out your laser cannon or power supply , or outlast your power supply. Now I think it is good enough to be considered a pretty solid first effort, at least technically , for just 4 weeks of work. ROM is actually 3K.

Sword of Iffrit is still in development but author ultima renamed his game into Sword of Surtr. Loki the God of Mischief has stolen the sword of Surtr and split it into 3 pieces. Heres a new release of a game for the Atari 7800, a good day for RPG fans:
Atarius Maximus started into 2018 uncovering his Atari 7800 project Legend of Silverpeak. If you love RPG games, this one is clearly for you.
Release notes:I’ve been working on an RPG title since October, and I thought I’d start off the new year by sharing my progress. It’s a fairly expansive title, with a large overworld with towns and dungeons to explore and plenty of turn-based level grinding fun. While the game’s basic objectives are in place and the game is playable (and winnable) there is still much work to be done. I’m aware of a few minor issues here and there that still need to be worked out. The most notable area that isn’t completed is the planned boss battles in each dungeon, some objects in the game don’t do anything yet, how you level up and progress in the game will likely be changed/tweaked, and the graphics are my first attempt and may be changed. The battles at the beginning of the game are very easy, and later on they are probably too difficult. Hundreds of hours of work have already gone into this already, and many design and gameplay choices were made based on compromises related to available hardware resources (especially the attack sequence). I thought it would be a good time to take a short break from it, share my progress, and hopefully hear some feedback.
Saving and Loading your game to the Atarivox is implemented but untested on real hardware. Actually I haven’t tried it at all on real hardware yet, just in Mame. The game is 512K, and is currently actually using around 280K of that space. In emulation you’ll have to use Mame, Mess, or A7800, and while the AtariVox saves aren’t supported in those emulators you can use Mame’s save states, which I tested and that seems to work fine. At any time when you’re not in the middle of a battle you can press the right fire button to bring up a detailed status screen. There you can save your game, use an item in your inventory, see your location on the overworld map, and review your statistics. In battle, use the left button to attack, and the right button to switch back to the menu at the top to choose alternate options or use items.

The Atari 2600 is still getting lots of love even in 2018, heres the release news:
Chris Read aka atari2600land works on a second game for the Channel F called Killer Heads of Lettuce. It’s sort of like a cross between Asteroids and Space Jockey. In the game, you shoot heads of lettuce in your spaceship.
Further notes:
You can move the spaceship up and down, and I made a variable for lettuce speed and it seems to be working okay now. It’s set to 1, but if I set it to 2, it goes faster. The object of the game is to keep the lettuce from reaching the far right of the screen. I’m still working on this game. You can shoot with the fire button, but the missiles can’t shoot the lettuce because I haven’t gotten that far yet. So, what do you think?

Heres a great release for fans of Atari systems, heres the release details:
Hatari v2.1.0 is released. Hatari is an Atari ST/STE/TT/Falcon emulator for GNU/Linux, BSD, BeOS, Mac OS X and other systems that are supported by the SDL library. The Atari ST was a 16/32 bit computer system which was first released by Atari in 1985. Using the Motorola 68000 CPU, it was a very popular computer having quite a lot of CPU power at that time. Unlike many other Atari ST emulators which try to give you a good environment for running GEM applications, Hatari tries to emulate the hardware of a ST as close as possible so that it is able to run most of the old ST games and demos. Hatari is open source software and is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL).
