Here is a bunch of tricks and tips to get the most our of your PSP-290 unit:
DIGG THIS
1) Lower the CPU/board frequency. As any electronic device PSP emmits some EM frequencies, that seems to interfere with PSP-290 operation. So lowering the CPU frequency results in generating less EM radiation and therefore slightly better performance of the GPS unit.
2) Use a DYI cable to distance the unit from PSP.
Following mini-B usb extension cable can be tweaked to do this job: http://pc-mobile.net/cmue.jpg
One still needs to pull an extra wire to connect the power port to the left of the USB socket with left power pin on the GPS receiver.
Following thread has more details on the hookup with some photos: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=62604
Following images "document" my performance testing of the cable. You can see that moving away the GPS unit "adds" 1-2 signal bars:
http://deniska.dcemu.co.uk/images/psp290/1.JPG
http://deniska.dcemu.co.uk/images/psp290/2.JPG
http://deniska.dcemu.co.uk/images/psp290/3.JPG
http://deniska.dcemu.co.uk/images/psp290/4.JPG
3) Some people reported better GPS performance after shielding the back and top of their PSPs with metal cover or aluminum foil.
4) Charging battery. Having a full charge seems to make a small difference, according to some reports.
5) Changing PSP or/and PSP-290. It seems that different PSP batches have different EM noise levels. Japanese PSPs seem to do slightly better than others. Also, from my tests, out of 2 PSP-290 units that I own, 1 always seem to do better in terms of sensitivity and presision. So exchanging the unit may help a bit too...
6) Passive cellphone booster stickers - although this does not sit well with the stuff I learned from college physics, some folks tend to believe that sticking one of those stickers on the unit's buttom seem to improve the reception. Feel free to try this theory, if you can get one of those stickers cheap or for free. If not, sticking some aluminum foil to the back of the unit would probably make the same effect (if any at all)
7) Upgrading firmware - This in theory may help a bit, but... SCE has fixed most of the GPS module bugs somethere around FW 3.03, so upgrading to higher firmware probably would not noticably improve the performance.

Hi All,
For those who haven't seen previous versions, Dropbear is a small SSH2 Server and Client running
on a variety of POSIX-based platforms.
It has been mainly developed by Matt Johnston (see matt's web site).
PSPSSH is a port of the version 0.48.1 to the PSP.
This ssh client gives you a remote access to your PC (if you have a SSH server installed of course),
and you can then enter commands and run scripts as if you were directly in front of your PC.
This software is usefull for linux users who might want to connect to their PC/server from anywhere using
a wifi connection, and then read their mail using text based tool such as pine, elm or mutt, run text irc client,
watch log files, edit configuration files, restart services etc ...
* Change log : *
What's new in version 1.0.7 :
- Fix lag issue while using IR keyboard or Virtual keyboard
- Update targus keymap file
- Text console is now really Fullscreen
* Credits and license : *
The terminal Vt100 emulation part of PSPSSH is based on the work
of Danzel for his Telnet client for PSP.
The IR keyboard support is based on the work of Harald Fielker
(author of the PSP IR Keyboard Library)
This software is distributed under several open-source/free software
licenses, and mainly the MIT/X Consortium License.
See LICENSE.txt file for all details and information about it.
It has been developed on linux for Firmware 1.5 and 3.03-OE, and for the IR keyboard
part it has been tested using a Targus Universal IR Wireless keyboard.
How to use it ? Everything is in the README.txt file.
Thanks to Matt Johnston for Dropbear, to Danzel and Jeff Chen for their virtual keyboard,
thanks once more to Danzel for the VT100 emulation, and thanks to all PSPSDK coders.
Special thanks to Cool Matty, Delight1, Paul and Fanjita ...
*** This should be the last release, only if major bugs are found. ***
Enjoy,
Zx

Initially, two systems will be produced that address two different market needs. The first is a consumer entry design that will offer a complete product with a target price point of $500.00, while the second will be of a power design that would have a target price point of $ 1,500.00. The PowerPC architecture will continue to be the architecture of choice for these new systems.

Hey Zx i love your work on all the emulators and apps that you've converted for the PSP and i was wondering if you ever had the thought of making a perfect NGPC emu for the PSP? Its just that the ones out there currently are either slow or dont play most games or that you cant save and such. Is there a chance that you'll give this baby a try? I have a NGPC but i dont [ever] use batteries anymore so its kinda hard to use it, plus i have all my gaming needs on my PSP so adding a perfect working NGPC to the list would just make me happier. I hope you dont get mad, its not like im telling you to do it, just a suggestion for your nect project maybe?Thanx alot and keep up the great work on the PSP homebrew scene.

Hi all,
For those who haven't seen previous versions, XTiger is an unix emulator (under X Window)
of a TI-92 calculator (Texas instruments).
It was originally written by Jonas Minnberg and was closed source.
Jonas Minnberg has not worked on XTiger for quite a while and he gave Misha Nasledov
the code and permission to GPL it.
PSPXTI is a port on PSP a the Unix version 0.8.
What's new in this version ?
- New user interface !
- Use Virtual keyboard !
- Use SDL library
- Render mode max (fullscreen)
- Add keyboard mapping menu
- New help window
- New background image
- Multiple keyboard mappings feature :
You can now toggle between 3 different keyboard mapping using
LTrigger and RTrigger keys
- Delete files option
- Bug fix in the file requester
You need the rom of your TI-92 or TI-92 plus, but it is NOT part of the PSPXTI package
because it is the property of Texas Instruments ! (have a look to my blog
http://zx81.zx81.free.fr for more informations).
This version works with 2.x, 1.5 and custom firmware 3.X-OE.
It's distributed under GNU licence and sources are included.
Here is a PDF version of the manual : http://www.smendes.com/ti89.pdf
Enjoy,
Zx.
